I’m evaluating TuneUp versus SongGenie 2 and the first thing I’ve noticed is that SongGenie wants your root password to install. Not good. I’d prefer to just drop it in the apps folders.

SongGenie does not make it very clear what it is adding and what already exists. TuneUp is even worse though – little idea how to even start it from iTunes. I see a hidden window for it but nothing yet. I believe it may be analyzing my files.

TuneUp needs to give some hint to the user regarding how to run it. The dmg should include some graphic, etc. to help with this. The tutorial video on their website doesn’t explain initial launch.

More later, perhaps.

Update: It seems that on my laptop the sidebar UI for TuneUp is hid. I had to resize iTunes to see it. Not really TuneUp’s fault but they need some more info for new users.

So some jackass writes :

“worst music ever made.”

as a comment on one of my videos (making music).

*sigh* What is wrong with people? In this particular case I don’t mind much. I didn’t really like the video much myself (clearing marked as just “fooling around”). Despite this it is one of my most viewed and has nearly all positive comments.

But what’s the point of the mean comments? Seems to just add a little bit of hate into the world. Puts a small ding in my day – time thinking about it, replying, posting a blog post about it. And if I would let the comment stand might depress (slightly) a few other viewers as to the meanness of others.

Originally I was just going to approve the comment (it was under moderation). When I let bad comments stand they actually inspire more good comments and I’m, in general, fine with all opinion expressed. But today I removed it and wrote a little note on manners to the sender. I intended to paste it into this post but have since lost it in my paste and browsing history. Oh well.

It’s odd – the person was from Australia and I’ve recently had quite a few run-ins with drunk Australians. This is a generalization but they’ve all had a unique brand of Australian drunkenness + argumentativeness to them. Interesting.

My RSS subscriptions (527 feeds stored in google reader and read on various devices and applications) are still a bit crowded by certain frequent posters. I’ve trimmed then in the past but am feeling the need to do so again.

Today I’m dropping:

Neatorama

ChristianPost.com Homepage

Super Punch

Selectism.com

I Love Charts – hate to see this one go as I love the idea but really aren’t getting much from it.

Pitchfork: Latest News

Instructables: exploring – featured – another I really like the idea of but never get anything useful from. Perhaps if I had more time.

Nearly dropped Lifehacker due to the excerpt only feed. However I found the do have a full text feed at http://lifehacker.com/vip.xml so I’m giving it a try.

All of these are decent feeds but seem to show up so often that I never get to feeds that post less but likely have rarer information. And it’s all about the information right?
